I'm reminiscing a bit these days. Remembering the days when my babies were little ones with runny noses, missing a front tooth, or those awful nightmares in the middle of the night. My babies needed me and I relished the moments when only Mommy could take away the fear or dry the tears.
Where have those years gone to?
I thank God that little Jack is in my life. He is such a dear. Children bring such joy.

Seeing this little angel makes me realize that I so miss my little Heidi. She gave us thirteen wonderful years as a faithful, loving, sometimes obedient beagle! I always considered her to be "my" dog and in looking back over my life, I know she cannot be replaced, but seeing this little beauty makes me wonder if maybe, just maybe, there's another little sweetheart due to share my home and heart again.

Don't Need Caffeine Today!

Sometimes, ones morning presents itself with a jolt of adrenaline that causes the old

heart to nearly explode. Like this morning by chance!

It's usually our habit to check banking statements, especially after paydays to insure

monies have been deposited as they should.

Well, this morning, our bank displayed a balance that did not compute.

It did not compute!

Why shouldn't banks be available at 6:10 in the morning?

If any updating should occur, I vote for 2:27 a.m.,

not 6:10 a.m.!

A person could have a heart attack....

after 2 phone calls, we thus discovered all deposits were applied.

Geezzzz...didn't need caffeine this morning.

Where have I been? WHERE have I been?

Well, nothing much has changed. I wasn't lying on a beach in Tahiti. Nor was I fishing for the Great White.

More along a boring matter, I am still working at what I consider my dream job. Honestly, I am completely 180 degrees from where I was one year ago where I hated getting up in the morning and dreading spending hours upon hours on the phone. Today, I could work 7 days straight if needed and not blink an eye.

Yesterday was spend with Jack, my sweetheart. Here are a few photos of our day out.

A stop at the local O'Donalds for a (which I was completely surprised) a healthy kid's meal. The teeniest, tiny serving of french fries, apples, chicken nuggets and skim milk.

Just because we can raise our hands over our head, silly!

Taking on a Project!

About a week ago, I was talking to a co-worker when she told me she was completing an Ali Edward's project that really sparked my interests. Now, granted, my friend was just completing a project that she started 2 years ago, but nonetheless, the project struck my interests.

It's called Week in a Life 2011.

With your handy camera attached to your side, you record every aspect of your daily life.

Interesting, yes?

I know, I know, it is a bit like blogging, but perhaps with a more personal, journaling touch.

I realized that in order to do this, I would need a new pocket camera. Why? you ask! Well, I learned a valid life lesson and decided that it is not always the best idea to share everything with one beloved grandson. Granted, he did take some great photos from his vantage point, but the zoom button no longer works and I believe the SD card has been permanently damaged. No worries! It was only a 5 MP and purchased at the turn of the century. Gawd, that sounds ancient!

So, last week, I took advantage of a HSN special and purchased a Panasonic Lumix 14MP 4X Zoom Digital Camera with a 4GB SD.

With that said, I am on my way to recording a week in my life ala Deb style! (since I ain't no Ali Edwards!)

Things My Mother Does At Her New Digs

One may think that being a senior, living at an exclusive retirement community, that life may be boring, dull, even mundane.

all!

...she attends Joy Ride Mondays where they all load into the bus that takes them on a 2 hour ride around the neighborhood areas

....she plays Are You Smarter Than a Fifth Grader with actual 5th graders

...she gets reprimanded by the kitchen staff for being the loudest, noisiest table in the dining room (her excuse is that all her friends wear hearing aids and their batteries were low!)

...plays bingo until she drops

...learned a few new card games

...laughs all the time and is just damn happy

Thank you to my sister for being so diligent in assisting Mom to this next phase in her life.

The Case Of The Missing...

Last summer, I purchased two summery tops, sleeveless, lacy effect on the top. Loved them both.

In fact, I wore one to a 4th of July / Fred's birthday event at Turner Stadium to watch the Braves play. You may have remembered that photo....

...then, a strange thing occurred....

this top was never to be seen again.

I asked my hubby, Mr Laundry King. He claimed he never saw it.

It was than that I proceeded to tear my closet apart, hanger by hanger, looking for the

missing top.

Next, I tackled every drawer in my dresser. I must say, that while this manic mode had

its beneficial effects (bags and bags taken to Goodwill),

the top was still not to be found.

Until...

2 days ago....

It was quietly laying in the center drawer, right side of my dresser just chuckling to itself

as I exclaimed...

There you are!

After hours of interrogation, the lovely white sleeveless top refused to provide so much of an explanation.

Who cares? I'm just happy I am wearing my favorite summer top again.

Now, where are those sheets I packed to move in 1981?

And where is my Grandmother's nativity set from 1973?

Are you out there?

Huh???

Some of you may know that I start a new job today. One could say it is a dream job. One that would make Oprah proud that I plan on doing something that I thoroughly enjoy and that I consider is worth getting up out of bed in the morning.

But as human nature has it, after 3 interviews over the past 2 weeks and one very long holiday weekend, somehow, I managed to convince myself that I was not getting this job.

Yet my sister had, what many sisters have, intuition, foresight and a little bit of ESP, sent me a new pair of shoes and a very pretty bright pink top for my first day of work. Honestly, I thought she was just being super supportive. Geri, I love you so much for that!

Giving notice at my current job was a bit like the final scene from An Officer and the Gentleman.

Friends and co-workers hearing that I was giving notice, raised their arms in the air, waving them wildly. If each one wasn't attached to a headset, they would have stood up and cheered!

One friend said to me, "One down! It will be me next!"

I wish all of you all the best of luck in finding new employment!

On to happier times...and bigger paychecks, too!

Signs I'm Getting Old....

Aside from the fact that I just logged into Blogger using my Yahoo email name and couldn't find my trusty ole blog, where do I begin? Getting old pretty much sucks!

while driving around running errands today, this is the sign I thought I read for a day care...

"Nutmeg Young Children"
Actually, the sign read "Nurturing Young Children"

needing my reading glasses in the shower, grocery store, reading prescriptions, cutting my toe nails, trimming my cats' nails, etc., etc.
in the past, I've always had a great sense of direction, these days, I get lost in the parking lot
after taking the first of what I refer to as my "old lady falls" when pointing out the first pollen on the cars last month, I am now terrified that the next "old lady fall" is just around the corner
I truly remember gas being $.26 a gallon on base many, many moons ago
when I watch Entertainment Tonight, I pretty much have no idea who the actors they feature are anymore

The list continues on and on, but I am really interested to know....what signs of getting old are you experiencing these days?

OK, I am Spilling The Beans

This Tuesday, I have an interview which could potentially be my dream job. Yes, that's right, an actual dream job. I wanted it to remain under wraps, but my husband told my daughter, my son, my son in law, my sister and brother in law. I was uncertain whether I spread the word that it would somehow jinx it or at the very least, totally blow the interview. Nah, not like that is going to happen. I have more confidence in this field than anyone else I know.
Part of my defense mechanism is to say right up front that I probably won't get it as I always prepares for the worst and be excited if the opposite develops.
Tonight, I must prepare my samples, my works of art, my projects that I have poured my blood, sweat and tears into.
If my post seems a little off it is probably because I sometimes blog after I've taken my Ambien. I tend to leave out sometimes important words or entire trains of thought.
I am asking all my 3 or 4 readers to please, send me warm, positive thoughts Tuesday around 6:30 pm.

Although it is in the same town that we live in now, it is about 5 miles from here and has a very New England look to the neighborhood. The townhouse is off of Mt. Vernon (alas my ode to Thomas Jefferson). I think I'm in love.

My Journey With Weight Watchers

On January 2, 2011, myself, along with probably several million people, decided to do something about my weight and join Weight Watchers.

I know, you are probably saying it was a New Year's Resolution, but honestly, I tried very hard not to use those words, but rather convince myself that this is changing bad habits into good habits. And besides, has anyone seen Jennifer Hudson? I mean, OM Gosh, she is stunning. She is as beautiful on the outside as she is on the inside. Eat your heart out Simon Cowell!

By now, I would have expected to have dropped 20 plus pounds, but the new Points Plus program is a slow and steady approach to weight loss. Yes, I am the scrappy little turtle who goes to meeting every single week. I'm down 5% of my body weight so far. A great accomplishment, yes it is!

On my journey, I will post some funny stories, embarrassing moments (really? did I just say that) and posting pics along with way.

I have a few pieces of clothing in my closet that will be photo worthy. Like my size 16 Gap jeans and the little Jones of New York summer dress, straight fitting, that will definitely make the blog. Just letting you know that I may not be able to breathe nor sit down in these clothes, but you can be pretty sure I'll share!

Along my journey, my lovely daughter is joining me. This makes me happy because it is always better with more bodies. My friend, Lynn, is on the program too, and much farther along. Overall, I plan on being a success story.

Memories of January 2011

After attempting to download these photos for weeks, I finally discovered I was using the cord from Jack's Leapfrog game instead of the cord from my Canon camera...yeah, I'm a twit.

As you can see, we did get a bit of snow.

I love the set of foot prints in this frame.

No self respecting magnolia tree should ever be subjected to such weather conditions. I'm just visualizing the magnolia blossoms come July or August.

Unplowed roads for at least a week...somehow, I did manage to make it to work despite the storm.

I am ignoring the weather forecast for Tuesday morning and Wednesday...

I'm tired of winter and cold weather....bring on the blooming daffodils and the luscious tulips.

Not only have I decided to blog today, but I have even updated my design. Hey, I'm feeling a little festive.

Is anyone tired of winter beside just me? Winter has hit everyone hard this year in all four corners of the USA. After 2 snow storms, ok, the one on Christmas day was picture perfect so maybe I should just discount that one, but the snow storm of January 10th was more than any Southerner could handle.

I know, my family and friends on the East Coast have had what? 50+ inches of snow so far? More on the way and more predicted for Atlanta this coming week.

So with all that said...here's a photo we can all relish in...

Wednesday From the Frozen South...

Today is day 3 of the "weather event" that hit the South. Today, news reports have turned critical of the response of the City of Atlanta and local cities. Let everyone know that the City of Atlanta reportedly owns 8 snow removal trucks. Yes, just 8! Then, mysteriously on Monday, the number jumped to 11! Imagine what a positive impact the additional 3 trucks had on the mess outside!

Again, I made it to work, this time 2 hours sooner than yesterday. My ride time was a mere 1.5 hours. Normal travel time with zero traffic would turn out to be about 15 minutes. Mother Nature dropped our temps into the teens last night and the roads were expectantly much worse for it.

As I approached my place of employment which is in a very lovely office complex, the street into the complex was blocked by a long string of horses of the construction type.

I said to Fred, just drop me off and I'll walk in.

But you will fall....nah...I'll be OK.

Away he pulls and not 3 minutes later, I am laying on my big butt with my feet up in the air. I always hate it when he's right.

I managed to pick myself up and begin the very slow, tedious walk, creeping 1 foot at a time. Along come a car from the parking lot and attempts to pass me by. Seconds later, he turned around and offered to drive me to the front door. Now mind you, this is only 200 feet from where I was.

I accepted the offer from the very young, nicely dressed young man. As he delivers me to the front door, he said "Don't let this nice gesture ruin my reputation. I am an attorney!" As I laughed, I thanked him for the kind gesture and told him his mother would be proud!

Tomorrow is yet another day. Tonight the temps will be in single digits.

I went to work today. Managed to venture out much later than my start time, but when I arrived, it was good to know that management appreciated my efforts with a hot lunch plus abbreviated hours. The message was clear, they wanted to be sure all of us made it home long before the roads refreeze.

Not all companies care so this sat very well with me.

Aside from that, a little Honda car was speeding north on 400 and thankfully, cleared us when it spun several times around. This is the problem with snow on the ground in the South. People don't stop for a minute to think that perhaps, maybe one just can't drive 50 mph after Mother Nature just dropped 6 inches of snow on us.

It's the other guy you always have to watch out for.

I can still remember the celebration we had in 1999.

In some ways, I wish I could wiggle my nose and be right back

at that very moment we were ringing in the new year.

So much has changed since then as life really deals

you some cards that are not always that royal flush.

But it call comes down to choices that we make.

If I had only done this

Too bad we don't get do overs in life.

Alas, I will place my quandary behind me and look

into the future of this brand new year of 2011.

As always, I see how long I can go before I subconsciously write 2010 on a check (but since I don't

write very many checks these day, I'm thinking I will do much better than last year where I made it all the way to January 2, 1010)!

Joining Weight Watchers.

Why, you ask? Because I think WW is the least restrictive of all diets and I just have to have

the new points calculator! Wish me luck!

Having such an adorable subject, Jack, I plan on scrapbooking more.

Seems to me it would be a great idea if I would create one book for each year of his life...

which, by definition already, means I am so far behind!

Dutch Butter Almond Coffee Cake

Just out of the oven,

cooling on the rack in my kitchen

is the

Butter Almond Cake

from my Dutch cook book.

Today, I am baking two of them to send to my uncle in Chicago.

His wife past last year and I remember she always made this cake in

the house just waiting for company to come over.

She was the first one to put on a pot of coffee

(why don't people put on a pot of coffee anymore)

and serve this truly coffee cake.

It is the simplest recipe ever.

The dough

2 cups flour

1 cup sugar

1 cup butter

1 egg

pinch of salt

Using your handy Kitchen aid mixer,

blend the dough well.

Divide in half and place in either an 8" or 10" spring pan.

The center

1 can Solo almond paste

Spoon or shave the almond paste and place all over the halved dough.

Taking the other half of the dough, make a ball, smooch it out and

place on top of the almond paste. Crimp the sides together.

Bake at 350 for about 50 minutes or until golden brown.

Let cool on rack.

Slice into wedges and put on a pot of coffee.

Today I spent my day off from work, spoiling my grandson and running all over God's creation. The day began to the little patter of little feet, toddling into the den. With his rabbit under one arm and Teddy/Monkey (although two separate, comfy little stuffed toys, they are one in the eyes of Jack...Teddy is a little May blankie with a bear head on it and Monkey is, well, a little stuffed monkey) under the other arm, he climbed up on my lap to snuggle. Always the first words out of his mouth is "Strawwww...bury milk, Mimi", I jump up to spoil this little soul. After downing his first drink of the day, I ask him if he wants cheesy eggs. Off to the kitchen once again, this time making cheesy eggs with cookie cutter pumpkin bread with butter. No matter, we were planning on feeding the ducks later in the day so the crusts would not go to waste!

I managed to shoot lots of photos today but must first edit and will probably finish them tomorrow.

Well, this is proof that I am still alive. I've decided to let my hair grow, although it is looking a little flat in this photo. Yes, I look slightly disheveled so my looks matches the way I feel.

Just between you and me...I had to take off my glasses to take this photo...I can't read a thing without my glasses.

Hubby finally home from the hospital. Only 6 prescriptions to pick up on the way home...thank goodness for insurance as we only had to pay $65.

It seems like only yesterday that I blogged last, but if you are checking the date of my last post, you will totally disagree with me. That's quite OK.

Hubby finally had his second surgery. After a little surgery scare, things worked out for the best and he is mending very well but cannot return to work until next Monday. (when can I watch the shows that I want to watch?) The man is under strict orders not to do any heavy lifting and must take it easy, but alas, how does one hold a good man down? If anyone has any ideas, please let me know. And just for clarity, duct taping him to the bed was not successful at all.

For the first time ever in the history of my life, I had a 3 day cold. No, not 7 days or 10 days, but only 3. What was my secret? Well, thanks to Laura Peach, I remembered to rub Vicks on the bottom of my feet last night, slept for 11 hours straight and woke up a new woman this morning. Thanks to Laura for the tip and thanks to having the ability to post on Facebook from the comfort of my bed!

My daughter and SIL have purchased their very own first house. It is a massive 5 bedroom, 3000 sq. ft home that will be a wonderful place for their family. Never mind that it is 20 minutes away from here...really not a biggie, but it will be such a wonderful new chapter in their lives.

As for my son, he is thinking of putting down roots as well and buying a home of his own. Does this mean that my babies are grown up and responsible young adults now? Where did the last 25 years go to? It was just yesterday that they both wore blanket sleepers with little feet and I was tucking them into their beds with Mr Bear and Figment.

I miss the open road and wish my hubby and I could just take off on a cross country RV trip...ahhh....what will the next chapter in my life bring?

Where Has All the D Gone?

For weeks now, I have been dragging my flabby white butt around, wondering what

the heck is the matter with me. For the most part, I've been blaming my lack of energy on the

fact that I started working last month and am so very out of touch with the working schedule.

Only after having my first physical in years and having a full CBC (all those years of watching ER have paid off) blood work up,

did I find that I am terribly deficient in vitamin D. Combine this with a lack luster thyroid and together you have one very exhausted mid 50 woman.

Here's what I've learned about vitamin D.

Vitamin is of utmost importance for your body because its role is to help your body use the calcium and phosphorus from your food. It also regulates normal cellular differentiation thus preventing cancer and helps insulin secretion. Deficiency of this vitamin is connected to rickets. Yes, rickets! Chronic fatigue, diabetes, heart disease, stroke, osteoporosis and weight loss (not in my case...damn!) are just some of the side effects.

Most women my age no longer drink the

multiple glasses of milk each day (no, a dribble of coffee creamer does not help at all) and we tend

to forego the cheeses from our daily diet...at least I do. So on a scale from 1 to 1,000,000, the total vitamin D in my system is around negative 543,908! I could be exaggerating just a touch, mind you.

My new doc, Dr T, prescribed 50,000 units of vitamin every week. Guess my 1,000 mg a day wasn't enough to jump start this old broad! Currently, I am on the second month's regime and I was well aware that today... I finally felt a little better.

Now I can move forward and target the slow, motion thyroid with a little help

from modern medicine and better living through chemistry.

Who knows, by October I may be ready to run a 5 K.

Who am I kidding!

Greetings from the South!

Life among the working class is becoming easier and easier as each day passes.

Acknowledging that I must take a kinder and gentler approach to dealing with people,

I have seen a marked improvement. Again, I think it is all me and not the poor folks who

experience dispare.

Labor day weekend approaches and the formal end to this hot summer will be behind us.

My plans are to celebrate the official kick off of college football!

Go Dawgs! Don't tell anyone, but I am teaching Jack to say Go Dawgs instead of

rooting for the Florida Gators!

Sunday we will be at our first NASCAR race right here at Atlanta Motor Speedway!

This may be my first and last race...no one can say, but I am excited about seeing this event first hand.

I will be rooting for the Number 48, Jimmie Johnson!

A Time To Vent

Hi Ya'll! No, I haven't faded away into the woodwork. I have emerged myself into the working folk and am trying to make this transaction as seamless as possible.
My new job requires me to be both on the computer and on the telephone ALL DAY LONG! Did I mention that I really do not like to talk on the telephone? Yah, right.
If I have learned anything, it is I now totally understand that the person on the other end of the phone is a human being deserving of my patience, understanding and compassion. However, people, pay your damn bills! I am the first to acknowledge that we all have financial difficulties from time to time but please, do not blame me for doing my job. I am not the one who failed to pay your bill on time. Yelling at me does not change the situation.
OK, that is out of my system. I am now prepared to enjoy my weekend, sleep in, and be lazy if I want to be.
I hope you all have a fantastic weekend and I'll be back as soon as I can face this computer again!

The Eyes Have It!

After waiting 4 years for health insurance, my husband's insurance finally went into affect on August 1st. Not wanting to wait another moment, I quickly made an appointment at the local Walmart Eye Care department. I was sure to ask if they carried my health care provider and the comment was, oh yes, but if we have a problem, we will call you.

Now I don't know about you, but I really cannot stand getting my eyes dilated. Once the solution is dropped into my eyes, I don't see clearly until the end of the next day. Luckily, my very sweet doc conveyed that if she could see my eyes clearly, no need for the evil solution. I breathed a huge sigh of relief and wanted to quickly celebrate. (the wine on the left happens to be my favorite)

Come to my surprise when I was ready to pay, that I choose the only Walmart in the state of Georgia that was somehow excluded from my insurance plan. Gah! Good news is I only paid $67 (although I should have only paid $10). No worries. My eyes were in great shape so I was very willing to part with the cash.

It's unbelievable that I'm cough...cough...56 years old and do not require glasses for distance. Reading is a completely other subject. Hmmm...is there a surgery for far-sightedness?

What I've Learned in Training

I know how to use homeboys in a sentence
Can process an order to turn someone's utilities off
Have a strong need to have "real" Mexican food
Take a payment over the phone
Knows what "on deck" means and not in a baseball connotation
Direct customers to the company's web site
The younger generation is down wit choo
More people than I care to think, are rude towards the person on the other end of the line

With all that said, I am hoping to win the big lottery jackpot so I can retire.

It Feels Like The First Day of School

Yes, it's true. The first day of a new job is much like the first day of school. Your backpack is full of shiny new crayons and your mom packed the best lunch in your bright new lunch box. Although in my case, I wore my new outfit from Chico's and I was armed with several pens, paper and highlighter.

I will be sure to stick it out because after all, a paycheck is hard to come by these days.

When I worked full time, I somehow managed to have a great marriage, raise two wonderful kids, lead a brownie troop and cub scout den, taught Sunday school, keep a pin neat house, had a rockin' career, worked 10 hour days, prepared home cooked meals and managed to find time to volunteered at the local firehouse and so much more.

Since the time in which I was unemployed, I hardly accomplished anything. Truly. Some of it, I'm sure is that fact that I was swallowed up by the whole depression of the conflicting times. If you are not mindful of this, you can quickly slide down the slippery slope. Meds only work so much but to make a real change, one needs something to look forward to. (yes, I am dangling a preposition, but I'm from the Midwest...that's what we do).

My hopes for this new chapter in my life is that I become that maniac of a "doer" again. That the pure excitement of life drives me to become a person who accomplishes much.

Invitations By Deborah

With a little bit of angst, three weeks ago, I delivered these wedding invitations to a very sweet

Bride to be. Let me say this bride to be was the calmest of any person I've ever met. This sweetheart was a dream to work with.

I delivered for her, the pocket wedding invitation in a shimmer onyx color, accented with a shimmery silver. All materials were printed on a pearl, shimmer paper which gave the entire invitation a sense of fun while being so very classy.

Inside the invitation, the standard invite is listed on the right.

On the left, this pocket holds three different cards, RVSP, Wedding Details and Accommodations sheets.

To add a bit more sparkle and dimension, I added 3 clear crystals at the very top.

The photograph may not be able to display that there are three clear

crystals located at the v on the pocket.

Addressed envelopes were provided with the return address.

I must admit, I really enjoyed creating this set for my lovely Bride to Be!

Recently, I delivered a custom invitation book to a local bridal salon in hopes of drumming up some business.

This photo just amazes me to no end and baffles me to think that some divine being, in my case, my God, created each and every one of these little, tiny sea shells for my pleasure.

Granted, this area is approximately 3' x 4' and look at the number of shells washed up on the beach! I am left with the sense of just how small we truly are as we are just a tiny spec in an overwhelming universe of life.

The colors are so peaceful, serene and calming. Some may say these are just beiges but I say, nonsense!

Although the Braves lost, we had loads of fun doing a little tail-gating at Turner Field.

Sitting atop Turner Field gave me an odd sense of vertigo.

But this little guy was worth the climb up to the tippy top of the stadium.

The Braves did not steal any bases, but Jack did steal Uncle Steven's Braves hat!

This past week, Potts, Mimi and Jack went on our very own little field trip. But first, let me explain just how "Potts" came to be named as such by our little Grandson.

It seemed as though, Grandpa was the last word to be spoken by Jack. Rather, that word did not want to roll off the little guys lips. So we began trying versions of such a title.

Our beloved close friend of the family, named Pops, was a man known by many by this name. For years and years, we lovingly called him such.

It was simple, really, let's have Jack call Hubby, Pops. Such was the plan, however, the little guy had an entirely different plan of his own.

As soon as we enticed him to say Pops, out of his mouth came "Potts" (with the tiniest little lisp at the end). So, Potts was born and will live on for eternity! (and you thought we didn't think of you everyday) sorry, private message.

Our field trip included a round trip ride on MARTA's train system to the airport. The Little Guy is obsessed with trains and for days, knew exactly where and when we were going to ride the "choo choo twain". He adored the ride, never taking his eyes off of the sights to be seen. He quickly learned about tunnels and stations, watched and listened to the young man sing along to his IPod music. (it was not a G rated song) At the end of the line, we were ready to see the airplanes.

All in all, the "choo choo twain"was the winner of the day.

Yes, I've used this photo before, but doesn't it just speak volumes of "Americana"? Truly such a patriotic vignette, don't you think?

Farmer's Market...Ahhh!

Summer brings many exciting experiences but none other are as anticipated than our weekly visit to the Farmer's Market in Roswell, Georgia. As much as the market has grown with many new vendors, the customers have grown, too, causing the city to move the venue from the Riverside Park along the Chattahoochee to the municipal center. Yeah, not very exciting location, but I fully understand the need for more parking!

Moss Hill Farm offers the freshest squash, zucchini and eggplant as most is either picked the night before or early early in the morning.
I didn't purchase any honey, but I loved the yellow on yellow format of this cheery vendor's booth.
The beloved butterfly bush! It is the closest to the native lilac bush from the Midwest.
This trip, we were sans grandchild so no free flowers for me!
This is one of my favorite booths at the market if you are in need of some fresh herbs or perennials for your garden. Shade or sunny location, they have just the right plant for you.
As for these succulents, I am so very tempted to purchase, but we are in a very shady locale.
What says summer better than a great big bunch of sunflowers? Nothing if you ask me...
If you are in the mood for a nice cup of Joe, I highly recommend Thousand Coffee! They do a fine cup of iced coffee if you ask me!
The best little booth in the entire market is the knife sharpening guy. Last week we brought in 5 of our best knives for sharpening and let me tell you, these knives were never this sharp. I sliced bread then moved onto tomatoes and after a good cleaning, sliced a delicious rib eye steak. Never, have my knives been so sharp. Never! Nice job knife sharpening guy!

Save The Gulf - Save The Memories

Beach memory, June 2010, Marco Island. Gorgeous sunset. A man with a destiny with his water.

Having lived in the South for more than half my life, summer vacations were always spent along the Gulf Shoreline. Panama City Beach, Destin, Clearwater, Naples, Marco Island just to name a few places.

My fondest memories of the white sandy beaches were spending time with my family and friends. We went so far as to purchase a time share at Landmark Holiday Beach Resort just to insure we would always have a fun place to vacation.

In all the years we owned there, we were only evacuated once for an impending hurricane. This year being the one we took our in laws alone, it was quite an experience for them. Granted, the hurricane was hundreds of miles away, so we took our time to get one last dip in the Gulf before even packing. However, my in laws, God Bless Them, were packed and ready to go, waiting for us in the lobby for a good 2 hours! Imagine how shocked they were when we finally did show up only to tell them we were going to eat at a local restaurant before hitting the road!

Then there was our friend's little guy who must have been around 9 years old, who was also so frightened of the hurricane that wasn't even here yet, she gave him a half of a xanax to calm him down. Believe me, it was much needed for him!

Many years, the Gulf only produced the slightest of waves for our kids to enjoy. These waves, mind you, were at best a swell of water, but our kids quickly named them as "Woop-dee-doo Waves". When the "Woop-dee-doo" waves were amiss, the Gulf was as flat as glass.

Everyday, we would spot a group of dolphins playing out about 100 yards off shore. Some years the Gulf was filled with jelly fish. Other years, algae patches were nasty, but that didn't keep us out of the water.

Doing our job to promote the local economy, we would visit The Boars Head restaurant and Captain Anderson's on the waterfront and also the now closed due to a hurricane a few years ago, Hamilton's Seafood.

But my best memory of the Gulf was my undying attempt to find a sand dollar while walking the beach. Everyone around me would find them as if they were pieces of sand on the beach. Me? Never found one and I do not count the time when my friend tossed one just a few feet in front of me and said, "Oh Deb, look!". No, that time doesn't count.

These are just a few of the Panama City Beach memories, believe me I have a million more to share.

I desperately hope beyond all hope that not only I can continue to make more memories at the Gulf's beaches, but also my children and grandchildren.

Mumbo Jumbo Stuff

I cannot recall when I have had so many headaches. Seriously, it is insane.

My expert opinion clearly blames the oppressive heat and humidity as

we have now achieved 16 straight days of over 90 degrees.

Today, trying to eat healthy, I prepared tuna fish salad over a bed of arugula and

accompanied this dish with a fresh red apple.

Sounds great right?

Well, be advised never, I repeat never to

chase your vitamins with a glass of iced tea post lunch.

Not a very pretty sight.

Not So Wordless Wednesday

Yesterday's blog mentioned the horrid heat, a dry Mother Earth and Banana Popsicles. Let me tell you what occurred last night between 9:00 P.M. and God Knows When...

Sitting quietly at home, minding my own business, enjoying the banana popsicle I found in the fridge, I first heard it. Yes, could that really be thunder? Just to convince me, Mother Nature bombarded me with multiple evidence of thunder.

Soon a gentle rain began falling. Soon the electricity began to flicker. Those having Directv know that even the slightest interruption of power causes every receiver in the house to reset itself. Annoying. Very annoying.

Just as everything seemed to settle down and I was about to watch the evening news, boom, darkness! And do I mean darkness. No lights. No TV. NO AIR! Gah!

So this morning, I got to thinking that perhaps if I blog it, "it" will come. Today being Wednesday (there is absolutely nothing wordless going on here), I will reference the Power Ball drawing today in hopes that is happens for me!

Now excuse me while I attempt to de-headache.

The day I snapped this photo of a turtle nest in which the mommy

turtle had recently returned to the spot she was born last season to lay

her very own eggs, I wondered what would transpire over the next few months.

An environmentalist quickly place this alert around the nest

for people like me not to step on the babies and crush them.

People of the beach become quite reverent around these nesting sights.

It is what we do to protect this turtles rights to live.

We even go so far as to draw the drapes in our condos at 9:00 sharp so that the

turtle community is not distracted from the mortar and steel and electricity blaring

at them when it is their time to nest.

It is true!

The American beach going community try to do everything in our power not

along and without any reverence to nature manages to cut this ritual with one wack.

Too many summers to count, we have enjoyed this beach.

So many memories of family fun spent on this beach.

What will become of this magical place where sea shells are gathered

and lotion is slathered?

BP...do you promise that I can return to this beach next

summer to find it in the condition I left it?

BP...do you promise that the sea life will have a home next month?

BP...what the hell are you going to do once a hurricane hits the Gulf?

BP...I shall never ever put one drop of your oil into anything I own again.

Often, my day slips away from me before I even realize it. How does that happen? It's not like I am performing brain surgery. Where does the day go to?

I come to realize that I haven't blogged in well over a week. Life just gets in the way.

One has to assume I have been taking time to smell the roses...

Frank's At The Old Mill

How I spent my Saturday...

This past Saturday, my daughter, grandson and I drove to meet my son for

a belated birthday luncheon at Frank's at The Old Mill.

Can you tell that I am really concentrating on keeping my eyes open?

Yeah, I am notorious for closing my eyes at photo time.

The restaurant has changed times several times over the years. Once a Southern

fish fry place, next a steak place that on its best day was so-so.

The Old Mill was vacant for several years until a stroke of

luck brought Frank's to relocate from Palmetto, Georgia.

The location of the Old Mill is a perfect spot to relax, breathe in the

wild life and drift away by the soothing sound of the water flowing over the damn.

I think this mamma deserves a reality show of her own! She has

10 babies!

We managed to pass on the desserts, but it was very hard to resist.

For lunch, our table ordered a variety of menu items, ranging from Turkey Rueben

to a Rueben Wellington.

The Greek salads were fresh and oh, so yummy!

Jack couldn't wait to go out on the deck to feed the ducks.

As soon as you exit from your car, you can't help but acknowledging the

fresh herbs throughout the parking lot and lining the lake.

Fresh basil and thyme...I love that aroma!

Not the use of natural bamboo in the garden. Love the natural look.

Overall, this was a lovely experience.

I will most definitely return to sample their evening menu.
